Children's Eye Tests

Let the eye people take care of your child's eye health.

Children often won’t know if they have a problem with their vison and will rarely complain if they do have any symptoms. It’s important to catch any early signs of eye problems as it can have a significant impact on their learning and the problems are a lot easier to treat whilst their eyes are still developing.

We generally start routine tests from around pre-school age and it’s then advised that your child has a regular test up to every two years. Children’s eye examinations include multiple tests, such as 3D and colour testing, to ensure their vision is working optimally and to detect any signs of an issue or disease. NHS eye exams are free for children under the age of 16 and up to the age of 18 if they are in full-time education.

It’s always important to keep an eye out for any symptoms between eye examinations and seek advice if you have any concerns. Signs of possible eye problems can include:

  • Rubbing eyes

  • Watering of eyes

  • Holding objects close

  • Clumsiness

  • Avoiding reading, drawing or writing

  • Closing one eye to look

  • Tilting head or squinting eyes

  • Sensitivity to light
